Malham Sunday 9th February 2003
DSCF0130.JPG |
The day's walking started in the car park at Malham.
We started out through the village and across this nice stone bridge.
We learned through the day that it is better (and drier) to use bridges
where they are available... |
| Check out those alloy wheels!... the very latest in
farming equipment |

The first waterfall up Malham Scar. At this point everyone
is still dry and nice and warm. |

In the next photographs, the Open Air Club would like to clearly
state it doesn't endorse damage to national monuments...
Gareth climbing a very ancient and historically important ruin.
Notice the stone bouncing away off the building and the expression
on Gareth's face

| Ok, so we are meant to climb up here? Actually it was
nowhere near as bad as it looked |

Me posing for a cheesy photo and looking as bad as ever... |

| Emma not managing to avoid a snow ball at the top of
Malham Scar. The small pockets of snow provided plenty of snow combat. |

Gareth getting ready to return snow-fire as Emma and
Anna look innocently incapable of throwing snow balls. Really? |

The sun bursting through the clouds. Whilst it was cold,
the day was very sunny. This was taken shortly after we stopped to
have dinner in a sheltered spot. |

Chris looks on in despair as the lads try and work out
which way up the map should go... |
| ... whilst the girls are already fine tuning their route
for the quickest time back to the pub. |

The small pocket of deep snow proved to be a severe
problem, for somepeople... |

.. and other's didn't learn from the mistakes."Walk
round snow suggest would I" |

I was really pleased with this photo |

Malham cove. The river used to flow over the top, the
water fall occurring at the join between two types of rock - remember
Geography? At some point in time the river took exception to the water
fall and decided to avoid going over it. Instead it headed underground
bubbling out at the base of the old falls. Hence Malham cove. |

The dilemma was to get people and kit across the river.
Here Gareth is working out how much water entered his back pack. Only
one (jammy) OAC member noticed a bridge a few hundred yards further
down whilst trying to find a better place to cross. |
| Nope this isn't a scene out of 999, nor, thankfully
is Emma at all hurt. Gareth and Anna are trying to persuade her to
get up out of the mud after she misjudged jumping the last bit of
the river, landing in it (like nearly everyone else...), and then
finally giving up and lying in the mud on the bank. Apparently good
for the complexion. |

The proof of Emma being fine;- Emma is modelling this
season's outdoor line with accessories including a fair amount of
mud and cold river water. Not too far to the pub now though. |
