Ingleborough, Yorkshire OAC

Click on the thumbnails to see a larger picture.

The pictures from the OAC trip to the Ingleborough area in Yorkshire (January 2004). It was a little bit wet, but at least there was a nice warm pub at the end of the walk back in Ingleton. Our group of four went up Whernside, which is a hill visible from Ingleborough (weather permitting). Most people went up Ingleborough. There was a little drama on the top, because some clothes lending had to be done to somebody who wasn't quite properly equipped for the conditions and was cold and wet. Lucky we're prepared for these things. So no disaster! Even the most hardy, waterproofed walkers were very happy to get back to the pub in Ingleton.

Yorkshire Roads

The view back toward Ingleton, down Oddies Lane. This is near the start of the day and it was dry(ish). We headed up past Twisleton Scar end onto in end of Whernside.

At the top

Two OAC goups meet on the summit of Whernside. Notice some snow up on the rather plain summit and a complete absence of a view. Will and company are tucking into their sandwiches. Whernside is 736m high

Adverse Weather

The flooded fields near Ingleton. At this point we are on our way back to Ingleton. We were all slightly relieved to be off the top of Whernside, because the wind had been blowing the rain at us.

A River leading into Ingleton

The state of this river made us change our route plan. This is Beezle falls. Normally there isn't quite this much water flowing down the river..

Looking at the River

Susan and an OAC walker look at the fast flowing river. A handy map case has stopped the rain destroying our map.

Next to River

OAC member stands next to the swollen river. The river is the River Doe. It flows into the River Twiss to make the River Greta in Ingleton. The two rivers join just before the viaduct.

Swollen River

The wind catching the river waters. All this water ends up flowing through York at some point.

Fausto (with a funky red hat) happily snaps away at the swollen river. Don't get too close there now Fausto!

Ingleton

Ingleton on a wet day. Always nice. At least there's a nice warm pub for everyone to dry off in.

Toria on the bus, not on the seat

Gareth and Toria having a little fight on the bus home. Here Toria is losing, it seems. Obviously Gareth needs a whole bench seat on the bus.
